Join New Hampshire author, Robert Wheeler, as he shares his personal journey during this interactive Literary Salon to discover Hemingway’s Paris on Saturday, March 20th, from 5:30pm – 7:00pm.

New Hampshire Jensen Violin Duo will greet you with the heartwarming sounds of Parisian music. Sip on Hemingway’s favorite wine or cocktail as Wheeler takes you through Paris. You will stop at restaurants, bookstores, and Parisian locales that Hemingway said inspired him to create his early short stories and iconic works such as ‘A Room on the Garden Side’.

Show off your skills at creating an appetizing charcuterie and enter the charcuterie contest. You just might win a signed copy of Wheeler’s Hemingway’s Paris. See our edible suggestions below or create your own. The desire is to virtually come together, learn, share, convive!

Wheeler has suggested some Hemingway inspired beverages to sip while you enjoy his presentation.  “My friends…here are four of my humble suggestions for a beverage that will assist nicely in transporting the audience member onto the streets of Paris on a lovely grey winter’s day,” he said.

“Any year of a fine, red Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Telegramme or Télégraphe. This is what Hemingway would have enjoyed, especially in the early evenings, with Hadley while in their small apartment on the Left Bank. For white, and with a more light and elegant and citrus taste, Hemingway would enjoy a bottle of Sancerre.  I can suggest the 2019 Sancerre Domaine Jean-Paul Balland…chilled…simply perfect.

According to Colin Field, Head Bartender at the Hemingway Bar in the Ritz Paris, and Forbes Bartender of the World recipient, there is but one vodka that is perfectly infused.  And this is Grey Goose, La Poire. Enjoy this in the perfect high glass with Schweppes Tonic and, of course, a thin slice of pear for garnish.

If I were to match a non-alcoholic cocktail with the evening’s discussion, I would choose a Paris Kiss…a simple blend of Martinelli’s sparkling white grape juice with a splash of cranberry and served in the perfect glass.  Of course, a French Press coffee would be ideal as well.”

The pandemic has made us all a bit budget conscious. You can treat yourself to a more moderately priced yet delectable wine. Peter from wine.com stated this wine, Terres d’Avignon Cuvee Kermit Lynch Cotes Du Rhone is the same importer of Telegramme and will do a great job of impersonating a Chateauneuf. $16.99

Peter from wine.com also says Cheverney’s Savignon Blanc Charrdonnay blend is from the Loire Valley,  just downriver from Sancerre. $17.99

You’ll nourish your mind with Robert Wheeler’s great stories about his search for Hemingway’s Paris, and tantalize your taste buds with nibbles from your very own charcuterie. This Zoom event invites you to have a 3 dimensional experience: sip, nibble, and engage! One can’t enjoy Hemingway and Paris without a charcuterie board or plate filled with cheeses, meat ,fruit, breads, spreads, pickles, olives, and the list goes on.

You don’t need to be an artist or a chef to create a yummy charcuterie board. As a matter of fact, you don’t need to have fancy boards, slabs of marble, exotic foods, or expensive dishes on which to dine. All that is needed is your creativity, your favorite nibbles, and a desire to have fun. You can google charcuterie ideas so you have time to make your grocery list and create your charcuterie with a novice’s flair!

To enter the Charcuterie Challenge, take a photo of your freshly made charcuterie and send it as a jpeg attachment to submissions@nhwritersproject.org by 3:30pm on March 20th. Please put Charcuterie Entry in the subject line, and include your address and phone in the email, so we can deliver your prize if your charcuterie is selected.
