#2 Getting off to a Solid Start:<\/strong> This workshop will introduce the basics of plot (which is as important to writers of nonfiction as it is to fiction!) It will also cover the importance of grounding your writing in a clearly-defined setting. Participants will explore ways to increase their productivity, minimizing that major drain on writers\u2019 energy\u2014using time wisely.<\/p>\n

#3 Character Development and Dialogue:<\/strong> Three-dimensional characters are more than external trait<\/em> plus internal trait<\/em>\u2014i.e., the bossy blonde. Characters need goals, motivations, conflict . . . and since they will interact with other characters, they also need to talk. While dialogue in fiction resembles normal speech, it is not<\/em> the same. This workshop will provide tips and tools for constructing realistic dialogue that conveys essential information without bogging down the action.<\/p>\n
