Trip of a Lifetime Inspires New Travelogue

Bill Georato

The NHWP member, Bill Georato’s travelogue, “Norwegian Dreams: A Travel Story” is the day-to-day chronicle of his family cruise to Norway and Copenhagen. Through this real life tale, the reader meets the crew of the Royal Caribbean Serenade of the Seas. The book features conversations, sites and experiences that highlight all the ins and outs of travels at sea.

The true story of a cruise of a lifetime takes readers through the fjords of Norway, across the Arctic Circle, and to the extreme north of Europe. “The inspiration for Norwegian Dreams was the thought of the trip itself,” said Georato. “As soon as the trip was planned, I knew that I would write a book about it; just from the planning process it seemed it would be an adventure.”

Georato shared that his writing process began with the notes and photos he took during the cruise. “My plan for the book was to write a chapter for each day of the trip, like a travel diary,” he said. Once he returned from the cruise, he wrote at night and on weekends to weave the pieces into the book. He writes a couple of hours at a time at his desk in his Salem apartment.

The author reports he has enjoyed writing his whole life, but did not get serious about it (in terms of publishing) until a few years ago. Occasionally he publishes a blog called Dude With Thoughts and self-published Dude With Thoughts: The Book, which is a collection of selections from the blog. In 2009 he won honorable mention in a national poetry contest for his poem “Ode to Captain Kirk.”

In addition to writing, Georato has a full-time day job in Boston at a major health insurer. He is in the process of completing his MA in Communications at Southern New Hampshire University. Not surprisingly, he enjoys travel and as a former middle school science teacher he likes science. He has been a volunteer at the Museum of Science-Boston for 25 years. This busy author is also a professionally-trained voice over actor. You can hear his voice on roughly 30 audio books.

“Norwegian Dreams: A Travel Story” is available at bookstores everywhere, online at the Apple iBooks Store, Amazon, and Barnes and Noble.
