Join this accomplished panel of science fiction

writers to learn what makes this genre unique from other forms of writing. You will hear why they gravitated towards science fiction as a way of telling their story, what the unique challenges are, and how they create worlds that not only seem possible but probable. Whether you write science fiction yourself, enjoy reading it, or just want to know what makes a good story regardless of genre, you’ll find something of interest in what promises to be a lively and entertaining session.

Moderator: Jeanne Cavelos went from NASA astrophysicist to senior editor at Bantam Doubleday Dell to bestselling author of science fiction novels to director of the Odyssey Writing Workshops Charitable Trust, a nonprofit that helps authors of fantasy, science fiction, and horror improve their work odysseyworkshop.org).  Odyssey offers workshops, online classes, and many free resources.

 

Panel:

James Patrick Kelly has won the Nebula, Hugo, and Locus awards. His fiction has been translated into eighteen languages.  His most recent books are The First Law of Thermodynamics Plus (2021), a collection in PM Press’s Outspoken Author series, King Of The Dogs, Queen Of The Cats (2020), a novella from Subterranean Press, a collection, The Promise of Space (2018), from Prime Books, and a novel, Mother Go (2017), an audiobook original from Audible. He writes a column about the internet for Asimov’s Science Fiction Magazine.

Rob Greene, writing as R.W.W. Greene, is the author of two dozen published SFF shorts and three novels with Angry Robot Books: The Light Years (2020), Twenty-Five to Life (2021), and Mercury Rising due out May 10, 2022. He lives in Manchester.

John P. Murphy is an engineer and author living in New Hampshire. His works in science fiction and fantasy include the Nebula Award-nominated fantasy novella The Liar, and the science fiction-western-samurai flick mashup Red Noise.

E.C. Ambrose writes adventure novels inspired by research subjects like medieval surgery, ancient clockworks, and Byzantine mechanical wonders. Her fifteen published novels include DRAKEMASTER, featuring a desperate race across medieval China to locate a clockwork doomsday device; the Dark Apostle Series, and the Bone Guard archaeological thrillers. Her next adventure will be the interactive superhero novel Skystrike: Wings of Justice, for Choice of Games.
