Mary Ann Esposito, author of, “Ciao Italia: Plant, Harvest, Cook!” and the winner of the 2023 NH Literary Awards Winner for Non-Fiction.

Marianne Esposito on ReadLocalNHMy special series of ReadLocalNH is underway, beginning with a beloved NH author: Mary Ann Esposito, on her new book “Ciao Italia: Plant, Harvest, Cook!”.  Mary Ann has written fourteen cookbooks, she’s a renowned educator and chef, and star of the longest-running cooking show on television – @PBS’s “Ciao Italia.”

Listen in for an inspiring, mouth-watering conversation. Mary Ann shares valuable insight into how even beginning cooks can create delicious Italian food and how gardening shapes everything that comes out of her kitchen.

She’s also the first author featured in this series, which highlights the winners of the NH Writers Project Literary Awards. “Ciao Italia: Plant, Harvest, Cook!” won the non-fiction award.

These special editions of ReadLocalNH are produced in partnership with the NHWP and a team of terrific interns from Southern New Hampshire University. Pictured here with Mary Ann and me, are Janaya Parsons, Julia Alamonte, and Amanda Goyette. Find everything Ciao Italia at ciaoitalia.com.

After 25 years as host of New Hampshire's leading public radio talk show, I've moved on: I'm writing historical fiction, moderating panel discussions, giving keynote speeches, and conducting long-form interviews that engage the head and the heart. I'd love to come talk to your group about New Hampshire, given that I had a front-row seat observing the state for a quarter-century. If you have panel discussions or forums for which you need a skilled moderator, well...I've done that a time or two (or 10,000!) I also give keynote speeches on a range of topics. Email me and let's talk! My favorite topic is the novel I've finished, tentatively titled "The Shopkeeper of Alsace". It's a family saga that spans WWI and WWII. The book is heavily based on a true story shared with me by a family I connected with three decades ago when I lived in Alsace, France. I finished the manuscript over the summer, edited it over the fall, and this winter, it's been in the hands of 5 early readers who are giving me feedback now. Once I've incorporated their wisdom, I'll find the right agent to bring this story to print. I have a series in mind, after this first novel...2 more adult novels, a YA graphic novel and a children's book. There are so many stories from this region that have not been told!
