Poetry shines in the newest episode of my special series of ReadLocalNH. My guest was Author Liz Ahl, whose book “A Case for Solace” won the 2023 New Hampshire Writers’ Project Literary Award for Poetry. With her discerning poet’s eye and her exquisite use of the English language, she explores what it means to be human – from grief and aging to friendship, country living, and yes – black flies.

After 25 years as host of New Hampshire's leading public radio talk show, I've moved on: I'm writing historical fiction, moderating panel discussions, giving keynote speeches, and conducting long-form interviews that engage the head and the heart. I'd love to come talk to your group about New Hampshire, given that I had a front-row seat observing the state for a quarter-century. If you have panel discussions or forums for which you need a skilled moderator, well...I've done that a time or two (or 10,000!) I also give keynote speeches on a range of topics. Email me and let's talk! My favorite topic is the novel I've finished, tentatively titled "The Shopkeeper of Alsace". It's a family saga that spans WWI and WWII. The book is heavily based on a true story shared with me by a family I connected with three decades ago when I lived in Alsace, France. I finished the manuscript over the summer, edited it over the fall, and this winter, it's been in the hands of 5 early readers who are giving me feedback now. Once I've incorporated their wisdom, I'll find the right agent to bring this story to print. I have a series in mind, after this first novel...2 more adult novels, a YA graphic novel and a children's book. There are so many stories from this region that have not been told!
