Have you ever imagined your book becoming a movie or television series? Bringing a story from the page to the screen involves more than simply turning a manuscript into a screenplay. It requires understanding what makes a story appealing to producers, how screenwriting differs from novel writing, and how to navigate the film and television industry.
Join professional screenwriter and Academy Award-winning Nicholl Fellowship recipient Alan Roth for a 90-minute webinar on Zoom exploring the process of adapting books for film and television. Drawing on his experience working with producers and developing projects for both mediums, Alan will walk participants through the steps of evaluating a book’s potential, understanding screenplay structure and formatting, and preparing materials to pitch a project to producers.
He’ll also explore the practical side of getting your work in front of industry professionals, whether you choose to write your own screenplay or collaborate with an experienced screenwriter.
In this webinar, you will learn:
- How to determine whether your book has commercial potential for film or television.
- How to identify whether your story is better suited for a feature film, television series, or another screen format.
- What makes screenwriting different from novel writing, including screenplay structure, formatting, and essential software.
- How to create supporting materials, including treatments and pitch decks.
- What to consider when adapting your own work versus hiring or collaborating with a professional screenwriter.
- How to approach producers and explore opportunities to get your project in front of industry decision-makers.
- Whether you’re actively considering adapting your book or simply curious about the possibilities, this webinar will help demystify the process and provide practical insights into taking your story from page to screen.
