First Impressions: Opening Paragraph Critique

First Impressions: Opening Paragraph CritiqueWhether you’re writing a novel, a memoir, or a short story, all writers know how important it is to hook your reader in the first few paragraphs. This workshop will give you a chance to have your opening section reviewed by a panel of writing experts who will tell you what’s working and what’s needed to compel your reader to flip to page two.

Each participant will be asked to submit no more than 300 words for review. Submissions should be sent to submissions@nhwritersproject.org by May 4, 2022, with NHWP FIRST IMPRESSIONS SUBMISSION in the subject line.  All submissions must be double-spaced.

Five of those submissions will be selected for in-class review, but whether yours is one of those selected or not, you’ll have a chance to get some expert advice on what you need to do to make sure your story is a page-turner right from the start.

WHERE: On the internet! You can log in from anywhere.

WHEN: May 11, 2022, 7:00-8:30 PM
