Diversity in Fiction with Beth Marshea (Workshop)

Presented by Beth Marshea

Saturday November 2, 2019, 1:30-4:30pm

In this hands-on workshop we’ll explore ideas centered around diversity. Why is diversity important in both writing and publishing? Through group exercises and discussions we’ll explore different ideas on how value #ownvoices is and talk about who should write from the perspective of marginalized people.

We’ll also look at some examples of what previously marginalized writers have brought to the table in the recent years and the ways that those stories knit the world together. Through group work and individual writing, we’ll work on getting in touch with our own voices and discover the contributions everyone can make to the world through their stories.

Beth Marshea is the owner and lead agent at Ladderbird Literary Agency, where she is a passionate advocate for underrepresented voices and untold stories. Along with building the long-term careers of a select group of authors, Beth also teaches classes for teens and adults focused on using writing as tool for growth. Beth is excited by writing that pushes genres and boundaries and challenges the reader to accept new points of view.
