McLeod was 'amazing storyteller,' champion of the arts

On July 18, 2016 New Hampshire Department of Cultural Resources Commissioner Van McLeod passed away at Concord Hospital. First confirmed as commissioner in 1992 he was, as he would say, “the longest-serving commissioner in captivity.” More important than his long tenure though, was his deep commitment to the arts in our state.

Van McLeod was a tireless champion for art and culture in all forms.

Billy Collins wins Donald Hall-Jane Kenyon Prize in American Poetry

Billy Collins has been selected as the fourth winner of the Donald Hall-Jane Kenyon Prize in American Poetry. He will receive the annual award, which carries a $3,000 prize, and read his poems in Concord on Oct. 3.
Collins, a 72-year-old former U.S. poet laureate, has published 13 books of poems, including Horoscopes for the Dead (2011). He is known for the accessibility and humor of his poetry. A native of New York City, he is a distinguished professor at Lehman College of the City University of New York and teaches in the master of fine arts program at Stony Brook Southampton.

LITERARY FLASH: Two More Regional Finalists Announced

On Monday, March 4, 2013, two historic literary battles took place in New Hampshire. One at Milly's Tavern in Manchester, the other at Martha's Exchange in Nashua. At stake? A slot in the finals of Literary Flash: Three Minutes to Fame, which will be held at Writers' Day on April 6, 2013 with keynote speaker Andre Dubus III and seven returning former keynote speakers. If you haven't already, register soon for Writers' Day, as slots are filling up fast.
