Information and Requirements

Nominations are encouraged and welcome from everyone, including writers, publishers, organizations, and the general public. Self-nominations are also welcome. (See exceptions below.)

To be eligible for an award, nominees must 1) live in New Hampshire or 2) be a New Hampshire native or 3) deal with subject matter that is deemed by judges to be inherently connected to New Hampshire. Nominations will be accepted only for work published in a first edition July 1, 2009, to May 30, 2011. Self-published works will be considered. Books nominated must be published (printed, not photocopied) with at least 200 copies in print.

All nominations must include three copies of the book or work nominated. This requirement is waived only for the Lifetime Achievement Award. In some cases, publishers may provide a nominator with these copies, but it is the responsibility of the nominator to obtain three copies before submitting the nomination form to NHWP. Books will not be returned, nor will copies of published articles.

All nominators (including those who nominate themselves for an award) will remain anonymous to the judges.

Except for the Lifetime Achievement Award, winners will be chosen based only on the work submitted for the award, not on career achievements, past awards, or prior publications. An individual may be nominated in more than one category. NHWP reserves the right not to give out an award in a particular category or categories if the judges deem this decision appropriate.

A public announcement of the award recipients will be made prior to the awards ceremony in November. All nominees will receive a letter announcing the award winners.

Submission Requirements

Please submit the following:
1) a completed nomination form;
2) three copies of the book (for the Journalism Award, three copies of the published articles, essays, or columns);
3) a $35 nomination fee (payable to NHWP) to cover administrative costs.

FOR OUTSTANDING WORK OF FICTION, NONFICTION, CHILDREN’S LITERATURE, OR
POETRY:
1) List the name of the nominee, title of the book or journalism piece(s) submitted, and the corresponding publication date(s) and name(s) of publisher(s).
Briefly answer the following:
2) Is the writer a) a resident of New Hampshire, b) a native of New Hampshire, or c) the author of a work inherently connected to New Hampshire?

FOR THE Donald M. Murray Outstanding Journalism AWARD:
Collate copies of articles, essays, or columns into three packets and fasten each with a binder clip (no staples please). Identify title of each piece and date and name of publication.

FOR LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT:
1) If you are submitting work, please list the title(s) of the work submitted and corresponding publication date(s). Resumes and publication credits are also welcome. Please note that you need to include only one copy of any supporting material submitted for this nomination. Fasten nonbook supporting material together with a binder clip (no staples please).

2) Summarize the contributions and accomplishments that make the nominee uniquely deserving of an award for Lifetime Achievement. You may attach up to two double-spaced pages in support of this nomination.

Please note that all nominators will remain anonymous to the judges.

Books and materials submitted will not be returned.

Please print the nomination form and return to NHWP.
